A Project-Based STEAM Curriculum for Secondary Education

A structured curriculum designed for upper secondary and high school students, focused on teaching STEM through engaging, real-world, project-based scenarios. It will be developed based on a thorough analysis of current educational needs and enriched by the partners’ expertise.

The curriculum will:

Integrate STEM and STEAM Approaches

Include Adaptable Pathways for Different Learning Styles

Offer Alternative Activities to Ensure Inclusivity

Provide Embedded Assessment Tools to Support Student Progress

The Story Behind the DIVE Curriculum

The DIVE into Learning project builds on more than a decade of experience using low-cost underwater robotics to create hands-on STEM learning opportunities, from workshops and summer camps to educational initiatives developed through PRESUB at the University of Girona and collaborations with partners such as PLOCAN and ARDITI.

This experience gradually led to a broader vision: to move beyond informal educational settings and bring this approach into formal education, embedding underwater robotics, marine science, and hands-on STEAM learning within the school curriculum and sharing it across Europe.

The DIVE Curriculum is the result of this evolution, bringing together the experience and perspectives of partners from Spain, Portugal, and Greece to develop a shared approach to inclusive, hands-on STEAM education.

In this interview, the project coordinators at the University of Girona reflect on how DIVE began, what makes its curriculum different, and the impact they hope it will have on schools, teachers, and students across Europe.
